# Zlide tank, matching each Z coil to a nicotine strength

> The Innokin Zlide tank and its Z coils, the wattage Innokin publishes for each, the nicotine strength that suits it and the VG ceiling to respect.

The Innokin **Zlide tank** ships with two coils in the box, and the Z range offers several more. Swapping one for another changes more than the draw. The amount of vapour moves too, and with it the quantity of nicotine each puff carries. A liquid that feels right on one coil can turn harsh or flat on the next. Before filling the tank, it pays to know which liquid belongs with which resistance.

## Zlide tank, the short answer

On the **Zlide tank**, the 1.6 ohm coil, rated for a tight draw between 10 and 14 W, is the one Innokin pairs with nic salt e-liquids. That frugal draw handles the top of the British scale, from 12 to 20 mg/ml as a rough guide.

The 0.48 ohm mesh coil supplied in the same box vaporises more liquid between 13 and 16 W and calls for a middle strength. Whatever the coil, a liquid close to 50/50 works better than a thick, high VG blend.

## What comes in the box

Before talking about nicotine, it helps to be clear about the hardware. The Zlide name covers a 22 mm tank, but also a wider version sold with the Zlide Tube kit.

### A 22 mm tank holding 2 ml

Innokin's own product page for the Zlide lists a diameter of 22.7 mm, a height of 49.5 mm, a 2 ml tank and bottom airflow. It also gives a 13 to 16 W range for the 0.48 ohm coil. Filling is from the top, by sliding the top cap, which stays locked while the mouthpiece is in place, and the coil comes out by unscrewing the base.

A 24 mm version with a 4 ml tank also exists. In the UK, refillable tanks are capped at 2 ml, so the 2 ml version is the one that fits the British rules.

### Two coils with opposite jobs

Retailer listings agree on what the box holds, namely a 0.48 ohm Plex3D mesh coil and a 1.6 ohm Kanthal coil. The pairing is deliberate. One opens the draw and produces more vapour, the other tightens it and vaporises very little liquid per puff, which points towards very different nicotine strengths.

## Z coils that fit the Zlide tank

The Zlide accepts the whole Z range, the former Zenith series under a new name. Below, a table brings together the wattage ranges published by Innokin and the strength that matches the vapour volume of each coil.

| Coil | Wattage published by Innokin | Draw | Strength guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6 ohm Kanthal | 10 to 14 W | tight | 12 to 20 mg/ml, nic salt or freebase |
| 1.2 ohm Kanthal | 10 to 14 W | tight | 12 to 20 mg/ml |
| 0.6 ohm DuoPrime | 9 to 13 W | tight | 6 to 12 mg/ml |
| 0.48 ohm Plex3D mesh | 12 to 16 W or 13 to 16 W | looser tight draw | 6 to 12 mg/ml |
| 0.3 ohm RDL | 30 to 40 W | restricted direct lung | 0 to 6 mg/ml |

One coil carries two different ranges depending on the page you read. Against the 13 to 16 W on the product page quoted above, the wattage guide Innokin published in March 2023 gives 12 to 16 W for the 0.48 ohm. Starting at 13 W is the cautious choice, since that figure sits inside both ranges.

The same 2023 guide also rates two other values in the range, the 0.8 ohm Kanthal at 14 to 17 W and the 1.0 ohm RDL at 20 to 25 W. The Z coil overview Innokin released in December 2019 describes the first as a warmer vape that needs more power, and the second as suited to restricted direct lung or a warm mouth to lung draw. That overview also presents the 1.6 ohm as perfect for nic salt e-liquids.

## Matching nicotine strength to your Zlide tank coil

The principle fits in one sentence. The more liquid a coil vaporises, the lower the strength should go, because each puff then carries more nicotine. Our guide to [reading nicotine strength](/uk/nicotine-strength-guide/) sets out the reasoning, applied here to the coils of the Zlide tank.

### 1.2 and 1.6 ohm, nic salt territory

Both run below 14 W and use little liquid. They therefore cope with the top of the scale. Nic salt, smoother on the throat at the same strength, sits naturally here, while freebase at 12 mg/ml can feel rough on a draw this tight.

### The 0.48 ohm, a looser draw to dose lower

Mesh heats a wider surface and vaporises more. A 20 mg/ml liquid that feels comfortable on the 1.6 ohm would deliver a noticeably heavier puff here. Freebase at 6 to 12 mg/ml suits this vapour volume better.

### The 0.3 ohm, the only coil aiming low

Between 30 and 40 W, this coil belongs to restricted direct lung vaping. It produces the most vapour in the range and calls for low strengths, from 0 to 6 mg/ml, much like an airy sub ohm tank.

## The VG ratio the Zlide can handle

For the Zlide tank, retailer listings recommend a liquid around 50/50, with no more than 60% vegetable glycerine (VG). The wicking holes on tight coils struggle with thick liquid, which raises the risk of a burnt taste when the cotton dries out.

That ceiling matters when you mix a shortfill. Take a 50 ml shortfill at 70VG/30PG topped up with one 10 ml nicotine shot at 50/50. The mix holds 35 ml plus 5 ml of VG in 60 ml, which is 67% VG, at 3.3 mg/ml with a 20 mg shot or 3.0 mg/ml with an 18 mg shot. It goes past the suggested limit and stays weak for the 1.6 ohm. A 50/50 nicotine base or a ready to vape 10 ml bottle, capped at 20 mg/ml in the UK, suits it better, and our piece on the [VG PG ratio after nicotine shots](/uk/vg-pg-base-mix-ratio/) gives the formula for checking a mix.

## The Zlide Tube, wattage set for you

The Zlide Tube kit pairs a 3000 mAh battery with the 24 mm tank. According to Innokin, it sets the power to 13 W for any coil above 1.0 ohm and to 16 W below that, within an accepted range of 0.4 to 3.0 ohm.

That automatic setting has two consequences. The 1.6 ohm runs at 13 W, inside its range, and the 0.48 ohm at 16 W, at the top of its own. The 0.3 ohm falls outside what the battery accepts. On this kit, the choice of nicotine strength therefore comes down to the choice of coil.

## FAQ

These five questions often come up when using a Zlide, alongside everything above.

### How do I change the coil on the Zlide tank?

Empty the tank or turn it upside down, then unscrew the base to remove the old coil. A new coil should be primed with a few drops of liquid on the cotton, and a few minutes of waiting before the first puff lets the wick soak through.

### Do Zenith coils fit the Zlide?

Yes. Innokin renamed its Zenith series as Z coils, and the same range fits the Zenith, the Zenith Pro and the Zlide.

### Which mod suits an Innokin Zlide?

A mod with a 510 connection that takes a 22 mm tank and adjusts finely between 9 and 16 W, then reaches 40 W if you plan to use the 0.3 ohm. Precise control matters most with the tight coils, whose range tops out at 14 W.

### Should the Zlide be filled to the brim?

No. Retailer listings advise leaving a little space under the top cap, because an overfilled tank is more prone to leaking through the airflow.

### Does the Zlide cope with very sweet liquids?

It does, but a very sweet recipe usually gums up the wick faster, especially on the tight coils. Expect to replace the coil more often.

## Zlide tank, pick the coil before the strength

The Zlide does not impose one nicotine strength, it offers several through its coils. The 1.6 and 1.2 ohm welcome high strengths and nic salt, the 0.48 ohm calls for a middle strength, and the 0.3 ohm for a low one.

With a **Zlide tank**, the order is therefore simple. Choose the coil and the draw first, then the strength and the type of nicotine, and finish with a ratio close to 50/50. The same reasoning applies to any tank, as long as you know the wattage range of its coil.
